In a significant shift within the crypto landscape, Solana has emerged as the leading blockchain for new developers in 2024, surpassing Ethereum for the first time since 2016. According to Electric Capital's latest report, Solana attracted 7,625 new developers this year, an impressive 83% increase. In contrast, Ethereum saw a decline in its developer base, onboarding only 6,456 new developers.

This milestone highlights a growing trend in the blockchain space, with Asia becoming the primary hub for crypto developers. Notably, India contributed 17% of all new developers in 2024, reflecting a geographical shift in talent toward emerging markets. Despite maintaining its overall developer count, Ethereum experienced a 17% drop in monthly active developers.

Maria Shen from Electric Capital acknowledged Ethereum's extensive network effects but emphasized Solana's momentum in attracting fresh talent. The report also noted that while Ethereum remains dominant in several regions, Solana is gaining traction globally, particularly in decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

As Solana continues to grow, it leads the market with low transaction fees and high activity levels across decentralized exchanges. This rapid development positions Solana as a formidable competitor to Ethereum in the evolving crypto ecosystem.
