Telegram is mandating that all third-party crypto wallets integrated with its platform use TON Connect, the connection protocol for The Open Network (TON). This decision means TON will be the only blockchain network supported by Telegram, sparking debate within the crypto community about centralization and interoperability. Mini Apps operating on other blockchains must transition to TON by February 21, involving smart contract migration and exclusive adoption of TON Connect.

Wallets not adopting TON Connect after this period will be excluded from support. This move is part of Telegram's partnership with the TON Foundation. Telegram claims this will enhance the security and functionality of its crypto services, streamlining transactions and improving user experience. However, some developers and users are concerned about the limited time for adjustment, the potential disruption, and the lack of interoperability with other networks.

Some critics argue this could stifle innovation and limit user choices, contrasting with the principles of decentralization. Grindery Wallet, for example, has voiced concerns. This mandate represents a turning point in how Telegram manages crypto service integration, potentially favouring a more closed environment.
