Cloudflare launched Cloudflare Wallets
Cloudflare has launched Cloudflare Wallets, a new payment and identity layer built for AI agents, and the move could become a major infrastructure shift for agentic commerce. The company says the product is designed so AI agents can identify themselves and make controlled stablecoin payments online, while humans still remain in charge of the money and permissions.
What Cloudflare launched
Cloudflare Wallets comes with two key pieces: a stable identity for agents and a wallet system for payments. Cloudflare accounts will get a unique web address as a persistent ID, while the wallet setup is split between an Account Wallet for humans and Virtual Wallets for individual agents. The Account Wallet works as the central balance and can hold, receive, and manage stablecoins. Virtual Wallets are then assigned to specific agents so they can spend within limits set by the owner, including spending caps, approved merchant lists, and maximum transaction sizes.
Why it matters
The launch targets one of the biggest blockers in AI commerce: how agents can pay for APIs, content, and other digital services without insecure workarounds. Cloudflare says the system is meant to let businesses see exactly who authorized an AI agent, which could make machine-to-machine transactions more trustworthy. This also fits Cloudflare’s broader push into agentic infrastructure. The wallets connect to cloudflare.pay and the company’s Monetization Gateway, with reporting noting that the setup uses Coinbase’s x402 protocol for stablecoin micropayments.
Rollout status
The rollout is only partly live right now. Users can already reserve a Cloudflare Wallet handle, but the full payment features are expected in the coming months. Cloudflare has not shared a precise public launch date for the full functionality yet, and it has also not disclosed the final fee structure or full geographic availability. That means the current release is more of an identity and reservation launch than a complete payments rollout.
